Thomas Wallace Keene (26 October 1840–01 June 1898), actor, was born Thomas R. Eagleson in New York City. Little is known of his early life. His father, known only as “Mr. Eagleson,” was a journalist who died when Thomas was a small child. As a boy, Thomas became interested in acting through frequent attendance at the Bowery Theatre on the Lower East Side of New York City. He soon became well known to the actors and theater personnel, who hired him for bit parts. In his teens he became a professional actor and adopted the name Thomas Wallace Keene....
