Description
Michael Callan (aka "Mickey Calin") got his big break when he got the lead in the original Broadway cast role of "Riff" in West Side Story. He changed his name to "Mickey Calin" when he was a teenager, and was already getting work as a dancer. He was first cast inThe Boy Friend (1954).
When he was 21, he auditioned for the role of "Riff" in West Side Story and got the role. He appeared on Broadway from 1957-1959. Many might know his film roles, which include
They Came to Codura, Cat Ballou, Bridget Goes Hawaiian, and Mysterious Island.
I read that but for his contract with Columbia Pictures, he would have played "Riff" in the film version of
West Side Story
. In television, he starred in the series
Occasional Wife
and appeared in shows like
The New Interns, Twelve O'Clock High, Breaking Point.
He signed these photographs to me, when I met him at an autograph show about the year 2001. The color image is on a light luster paper, and the marking pen looks a bit soft because of the luster paper. The black and white image shows sharper. I don't have a photo of him holding up the rehearsal photo, but you can see the writing is consistent. You will receive a copy of Mr. Callan holding up one of the photos I am selling. These photos are rare and Mr. Callan doesn't sign anymore. Buyer pays .50 to ship/handle by Priority Mail with tracking, domestically.
