    Description

This is a vintage black and white photograph, 7 & 1/16" X 8 & 3/4", signed by vaudeville and theater actress Julie Ring (1880-1957), a member of the prominent Ring family, rich in theater and musical performers.
The photo is inscribed, "To Mr. Burroughs Sincerely Julie Ring".
Condition: bold blue ink inscription/signature, pinhole on the white border on the middle right-side of the photo, "Julie Ring Actress" in pencil on the reverse, surface wear. It is an odd size portrait with white borders on the top and right sides, so I believe it was trimmed down from a larger photograph.
Among the productions Ms. Ring starred in were
    "The Yankee Girl" in 1912,
"The Strawberry Blonde" in 1927, "Intimate Relations" in 1932, "Up in Mabel's Room", "Twice a Week", and "The Girl in the Taxi."
The Ring Sisters were sisters Julia Ring, Frances Ring, and Blanche Ring ( Blanche Ring had an enormous hit with "In the Good Old Summer Time"). They appeared in vaudeville shows, one performance was at the Automatic Vaudeville in 1911 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Her remarkable lineage is full of actors and actresses:
Great-granddaughter of English actor Charles Fisher and actress Josephine H. Boone Shaw.
Granddaughter of Boston actor James H. Ring (1820-1882) of the Boston Museum Stock Company and actress Julie Fisher.
Daughter of comedian James H. Ring, Jr. (1850-1924) and Wilhelmena Ross Ring.
Sister of actress/singers Frances and Blanche Ring, sister of actor Cyril Alfred Ring, and sister of Grace Ring, the only non-actor among her siblings.
Wife of theatrical agent Albert "Al" H. Sutherland (died in 1911), second marriage on November 9th, 1914 to actor James Norval ("The
    Time
, the Place and The Girl, 1907), with whom she often acted on stage.
Mother of A. Edward Sutherland (
(1895-1973), film director (he directed more than fifty films between 1925 and 1956)
and actor, born in London, he acted in more than thirty-five films the first of which was with Charlie Chaplin in 1914's Tillie's Punctured Romance.
